Building Health (BH) is a universal, multi-component intervention aimed at preventing the onset of drug use and involvement in other problematic behaviors at the beginning of adolescence. The program is directed at students from the last year of Primary Education to the second year of Secondary Education (ages 11–14) and their families.
The origin of the program dates back to 1992 and is based on models focused on life skills training. In 1995, the first evaluation of the program began, followed by a four-year monitoring of its effects. In 1997, a second research phase was carried out to assess the feasibility of applying the program on a large scale. Finally, an evaluation of a family intervention was developed to complement the school-based intervention. The following links provide information about the program and its evaluations. In the following links you can consult the information corresponding to the program and its evaluations.
The program has been recognized as a high-quality program within the European context of drug prevention:
In 2024 and 2025, the program was reviewed and updated, and the new versions are currently being implemented in numerous locations across Galicia and Castilla y León (Spain).
